The Dos and Donts of Acid Wash

Let’s be honest, the 80s were pretty rad. Between the big hair, bigger attitude and the biggest shoulder pads (ever), some of fashion’s most famous trends were born from these over-the-top favorites. And while some of these awesomely bad trends would make even Bret Michaels blush, there are a few styles that deserve more praise than punishment. Some of our personal favorites include neon, bold patterns and even acid wash. We admit this look has gotten a bad rap – you’ll see in our Don’t tips what we mean -but  there is something funky fresh about this particular rinse. Like the printed denim of seasons passed, this bleached out denim is a subtler take on spring’s white jeans. Paired with everything from light knits to graphic tees, and worn on everything from chambray shirts to pants , acid wash is easier to mix into your wardrobe than you think (and doesn’t everyone deserve a second chance?) To avoid looking like a WHAM reject, follow our simple Dos and Donts below…low-res 80s photos included. With your new decade-infused look, you’ll give those valley girls a run for their money. Like, totally.

Do: Try an acid wash rinse on a jacket, thrown over a simple tee and leggings.

Don’t: Pair your acid 80’s wash jacket with 80’s printed leggings – or any exaggerated style. You don’t want to detract from your staple piece.

Do: Throw a blazer over your acid wash jeans for a casual cool look, perfect from desk until dinner.

Don’t: Pair your acid wash jeans with an acid wash jacket (or blazer.) Worst. Canadian. Tuxedo. Ever.

Do: Step out in some acid wash shorts for spring and summer! Pick these up here.

Don’t wear acid wash mom jean-shorts… like this girl.

Do: Experiment with acid wash in a variety of colors – they’re available from bleached to black.

Don’t: Wear a variety at the same time, in the same picture.

Do: Rock acid wash denim at a festival or concert.

Don’t: Sport your acid wash like an 80’s rocker.Even Bon Jovi can’t make this work.

And finally…

Do: Dance like a maniac and HAVE FUN! Like the wild decade that invented this style, acid wash is serious party business. Shop and get your move on today.

Now we want to know: What trends deserve a re-do?
